Varicose Veins and Broken Vessels

Treatment options For Varicose Veins & Spider Veins

Even the shapeliest legs can look less attractive with bumpy blue varicose veins or sprawling spider veins. Those veins can be diminished with today's advances and technologies in vein treatment. It's no surprise, then, that vein surgery is one of today's most popular cosmetic surgery procedures.

Depending on the size of the vein we recommend the appropriate treatment for you.

Laser therapy consists of using a light source to treat the vessel and is ideal for the tiny vessels known by many names including telangiectasias, broken capillaries and broken vessels. Good results require usually two sessions at one-month interval.

When the diameter of the vessel exceeds one millimeter sclerotherapy is recommended instead. It is most commonly performed on the legs. A solution is injected into the vein using a tiny needle. The solution causes the vein to either become less obvious or disappear The veins that are treated are not necessary to the circulatory system, so they can be removed or treated without posing a health problem. Spider veins and varicose veins differ. Spider veins appear as sunbursts or a web pattern. Varicose veins are larger, sometimes raised and are often blue.

Sclerotherapy is not painful but for good results we would need to repeat the procedure about four times at on month intervals.

Veins that are the size of a pencil are best removed using a special hook introduced without creating a scar under local anesthesia (the modern ambulatory phlebectomy technique.)

 Are You A Good Candidate?

It is important to remember that improvement, not perfection, is the goal. The best candidates are healthy individuals with realistic expectations.

No one knows for sure what causes spider veins or varicose veins, but it seems to run in some families. Also, multiple pregnancies, birth control pills, trauma to the legs can cause the condition, as can long periods of standing or sitting. Women are more prone to the condition than men.
