Skin Care Products

Facts and Fiction

“ALL NATURAL"

Products that are "all natural", while possessing a marketing appeal are not necessarily desirable or superior. Poison oak and ivy are, also "all natural"! Many plant products, (including chamomile, aloe vera, and fragrances) as well as animal products (such as lanolin) are potent allergens and should be avoided in individuals with sensitive skin.

"REMOVES WRINKLES OR AGING CHANGES"

Many companies use computer photography tricks to sell their products. We don't claim that our products can remove deep wrinkles - no products sold over the counter can do that.

"HYPOALLERGENIC"

"Hypoallergenic" is not the same as "non-allergenic". Even water can cause hives called "aquagenic urticaria". Perfumed products and perfume should not be used on sun exposed skin as this may cause difficult to treat dark spots.

"NON-COMEDOGENIC"/"Dermatologist tested"

“Dermatologist tested” does not mean, “Dermatologist approved”. Commonly, rabbit ears are used for testing. We performed our clinical testing and biopsies on patient subjects with sensitive skin.

"OIL FREE"

Products labeled "Oil free" may actually have oil in them, but the ratio of water to oil is much greater. Isopropyl Myristate is a potent acne-causing chemical, found in many cosmetics, and yet is not oil. Other oils such as petrolatum and mineral oil do not cause acne unless excessive amounts are used.
